I’m pleased to announce that The 63rd Annual Meeting of Japan Society of Clinical Oncology will be held at Pacifico Yokohama from Thursday, October 16, to Saturday, October 18, 2025.

I’m grateful to society members and everyone else who is working hard to make this meeting a reality.

The theme for the conference is “Living with Cancer, Living through Cancer.” The first half of that theme, “Living with Cancer,” is the slogan from when Professor Konishi, my predecessor, was responsible for the gynecology domain 10 years ago. Cancer was in the process of becoming a curable disease at the time, and the theme focused on how patients could coexist with the disease. Ten years later, our record of successful treatment has improved further, yielding a diverse range of therapeutic methods; at the same time, the way patients and society as a whole face cancer has undergone a transformation. I feel that the medical field is being called upon to look outwards by putting in place support structures throughout society based on the assumption that cancer can strike anyone, improving patients’ health literacy, and even addressing philosophical questions like what it means to contract cancer as a life event and how to overcome it. We added the second half, “Living through Cancer,” to add a more active component to the theme.

The Society is distinguished by its inclusion of cross-disciplinary fields and multiple professions, and we’re putting together a program based on the theme to encourage universal and ongoing discussion. We will ensure that attendees are able to gain an understanding of all aspects of cancer care. Furthermore, we’ll take advantage of the leading role being played by the gynecological field to address topics including HPV vaccination, oncofertility, preimplantation diagnosis for hereditary tumors, and cancer care during pregnancy, as well as cutting-edge technologies like AI and robotics and peripheral issues like cancer support. Our goal will be to craft a conference where participants return to their clinical practice armed with new motivation focusing on the treatments of tomorrow. Our department is committed to diligently preparing to ensure the meeting is a fruitful and rewarding event, including the hospitality program, and I look forward to welcoming your attendance.
