It is our great pleasure and honour to be the convenors of the 2024 Australian Society of Anaesthetists’ National Scientific Conference in Darwin.
Our committee is excited to deliver a meeting that will be stimulating, interesting, and relevant while showcasing some of the highlights of the top end.
Darwin is a special part of Australia known for its fantastic dry season weather, outback, outdoor adventuring, and rich Aboriginal culture. There are galleries, museums, a buzzing food and drink scene, crocodiles, famous markets, and it is perfectly situated for exploring surrounding national parks like Litchfield, Nitmiluk, and Kakadu.
The 2024 NSC will be held at the Convention Centre, along the beautifully developed waterfront. The Convention Centre has the capacity for the whole program to be located primarily in one spot, which is also conveniently close to most accommodation and restaurants.
We also want to proudly acknowledge the beautiful artwork we are using in our logo; this was designed by Elizabeth Close, an Anangu woman we have had the pleasure to work with in our hospital, who has special connections with anaesthesia as her mother-figure is in the specialty! Please read more about her story and her art on the ‘about the logo’ tab on our website.
The scientific program will run from Friday 6 September to Monday 9 September 2024 and will include thought-provoking lectures and plenaries, outstanding masterclasses, workshops, and practice evaluations run by international and Australian experts.
The theme of our meeting is ‘Engaging, Enhancing, Evolving’ and we have created a program to match. We want to focus on what we, as anaesthetists want to know in busy practices, but also think beyond our current day to day work with speakers who are pushing boundaries and thinking big. We have an absolute all-star line-up of keynote speakers including Dr. Glaucomflecken (Dr. Will Flanery), Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dr Fiona Lander, Assistant Professor Roopan Gill, Dr. Anne Tonkin, Professor Daniel Sessler, Professor Ki Jinn Chin, Professor Ramani Moonesinghe and many others!
There will be many opportunities to mingle and socialise with events occurring at beautiful spots around Darwin including welcome drinks, a gala dinner, and sunset family time at Mindil Markets.
We encourage you to register for the congress to take advantage of the excellent education programs, develop your networks and enjoy all that Darwin has to offer.
We look forward to seeing you there!
