ABSTRACT SUBMISSION Deadline: 16 January 2025
Dear Colleagues, dear Friends,
I am thrilled to invite you to the 11th Congress of the European Academy of Neurology, which will lead us back to the wonderful city of Helsinki on 21-24 June 2025.
Following unforeseen developments that ruled out our original destination, we are returning to the Finnish capital, which hosted our extraordinarily successful EAN Congress in 2024, with record onsite attendance. The warm reception, cutting-edge facilities, and rich scientific atmosphere we experienced in Helsinki last year have inspired us to once again embrace this exceptional city as our host.
This year our congress will have an innovative and intriguing Overarching Theme that will address ‘Neurology within society’. The topic particularly challenges our practice since our society impacts the progress, priorities, and relevance of neurology, and, conversely, neurology influences decisions and developments in society. This creates a highly complex and consequential set of interactions that affect all of us - professionals and patients alike. As usual, this theme will weave like a common thread throughout all of the invited content of our congress, from workshops to plenary sessions.
In honour of our original destination, Seville, the 2025 Congress will have a Spanish flair: We will be able to deepen the connections we established and explore new horizons together.
On behalf of the EAN Board and all our fellow organisers: join us in Helsinki for a fiesta of neurology in June 2025!
Elena Moro, EAN President

EAN 2024: Guidelines for Abstract Submission
- Abstracts must be submitted via an active MyEAN profile. Abstracts submitted via fax or email will not be accepted.
- All co-authors' affiliations must be stated during the abstract submission. By completing the abstract submission, submitters give full consent on behalf of all co-authors to provide their data.
- Abstracts must be submitted and presented in English (UK). Proofread your abstract before submission.
- Abstracts must contain new and original information not published elsewhere prior to 28 June 2024, 18:30 CEST. See Embargo Policy.
- Abstracts must be structured under the given headings:
- Introduction - State specific objective of study
- Methods
- Results
- Conclusion
- Disclosures - In the interest of transparency, disclose all relationships/activities/interests related to your manuscript
- If your research has been granted any commercial or institutional support, you will be asked to list these under Disclosures in the submission process. Prepare a one-sentence statement for this purpose.
- All abbreviations used must be written out at first use.
- Simplify complex mathematical formulas. Avoid symbols (Greek, mathematical, etc.). E.g. Instead of IFN-ß, use IFN-beta; instead of 10², use 10^2; instead of x≥2, use x>=2.
- A maximum of 3 images can be inserted per abstract. Images can only be submitted in JPG or PNG format. EAN may adjust tables or figures to fit for final publication. Tables must be submitted as a separate graphic file. Tables and images do not affect word count.
- Abstract titles may contain a maximum of 25 words and 120 characters. Abstract text cannot exceed 250 words in total and 1500 characters per section.
- Authors must indicate preference of presentation type: oral, poster or oral, poster, or poster virtual. The Programme Committee will decide the presentation type upon review.
- Once an abstract is accepted, the presenting author must register for the congress. A penalty may be incurred if the presenting author, indicated at submission, does not register for the congress, or does not attend the session for which (s)he has been scheduled. Not registering in time risks the omission of your accepted abstract from the Congress Programme.
- Presenting authors must have active MyEAN user accounts under the submitted email address. Every presenting author can present a maximum of 3 abstracts. The submission system will alert the submitter if the selected presenting author has already been assigned 3 abstracts.
- Within 1 hour after submission, the abstract submitter will receive a confirmation e-mail with a unique abstract ID. If you have not received a submission confirmation e-mail, email abstracts(at)ean.org. The abstract submitter is responsible for informing all authors about the stage and status of the abstract. In the submission system, “Stage” is the stage of submission and “Status” is the status of abstract review. Make sure to include the abstract ID in all communication with EAN Head Office.
- Should you wish to correct an abstract already submitted, email abstracts(at)ean.org and make sure to include the abstract ID in all communication with EAN Head Office. Abstracts that are submitted or in review cannot be edited in the submission platform. After the final submission deadline has passed, submitters can no longer modify or correct the abstract's content, and the abstract will be published exactly as submitted.
- If your abstract has been accepted as a poster presentation, you will be asked to prepare a poster in electronic format (ePoster). Guidelines will follow based on the acceptance of your abstract. Presenting authors will present their posters in ePoster sessions during the congress.
- If you apply for a bursary or for the tournaments basic or clinical, remember to upload the necessary documents. Your application will only be considered once all documents have been submitted and reviewed.

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
The 10th annual congress of the European Academy of Neurology will take place in Helsinki, the capital of Finland,
on 29 June – 2 July, 2024.
Helsinki is a beautiful modern coastal city that is known for its unique combination of urban culture and the calm of nature. In Helsinki you will find beautiful architecture ranging from the 17th century to very recent, famous, modern creations. The city cherishes its open, participatory culture that is a source for its innovative and creative atmosphere and sustainable way of life.
Finland is a small Nordic country (population 5.5 million) that enjoys a richness and diversity of research activities including those in neurology and neurosciences. The innovative original research of Finnish investigators on weak magnetic fields in the human brain has led to the development of advanced imaging techniques. Another area associated with many recent breakthroughs has been human genetics and the identification of the molecular genetic causes and risk factors of a number of nervous system disorders. The rather unique population history of Finland with long-term stable regional subpopulations, excellent population and health registers, and a generally favorable attitude towards medical research are among the factors contributing to the success of Finnish brain research.
On behalf of the EAN and the Finnish Neurological Society we invite you to join us in Helsinki in 2024 and look forward to extending a warm welcome to what will surely be an excellent congress in a truly inspiring location for establishing new contacts and friendships, and of course renewing old ones.
In June, Helsinki is at its best, with the unique midnight sun that is surely worth experiencing once in a lifetime!
See you in Helsinki in June 2024!
