Submission Guidelines:

• All abstracts must be written in fluent English, scientific language and in accordance with grammatical rules.
• Authors should take care to use non-stigmatizing language in abstracts.
• The study presented in the abstract must be approved within the scope of ethics and animal experimentation rules.
• Abstracts must be original and must not have been published or presented at another meeting.
• Abstracts must be submitted under one of these formats; Symposium, Workshop, Oral Presentation, and Poster Presentation

Presentation Type:

1. Symposium:

• Each symposium is scheduled to be 90 minutesin length.
• Each symposium is composed of three speakers and one chair.
• Symposium organizer must act as a chair in the proposed symposium.
• Each speaker will be requested to submit a speech abstract following the confirmation process.
• The abstract is limited to 300 words including background and objective of the symposium.
• Name, surname, institution and e-mail should be written under the title.

2. Workshop:

• Workshops are scheduled to be 90 minutesin length.
• They can consist of data presentations and/or skills-building sessions and are supposed to be more interactive.
• The chair will manage the speaking team.
• Workshops can have two to four speakers.
• A co-chair and moderator are optional.
• The abstract is limited to 300 words including background and objective of the workshop.
• Name, surname, institution and e-mail should be written under the title.

3. Oral Presentation:

• An oral communication is a brief talk, typically 15 minutes.
• The time for oral presentation is 13 minutes + 2 minutes for Q&A
• Presenters will receive an email notification of acceptance with the date, time, and type (poster, or oral) of presentation.
• The abstract is limited to 500 words and 3-5 references. References are not included in the word count.
• All tables, figures, and reference citations must be referred to in the text of the abstract.
• The abstract should be structured into the following sections:
  • Introduction/Objectives
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusions
• Name, surname, institution and e-mail should be written under the title.
• There should be 2 learning objectives under the abstracts.
• The Congress Committee has rights to publish the accepted abstract in proceeding book.

4. Poster Presentatiton:

• Authors are requested to be present next to their poster boards during Poster Session.
• Posters will be placed electronically in kiosks and must be prepared in 1920 x 1080 (vertical) dimensions – jpeg format.
• The abstract is limited to 500 words and 3-5 references. References are not included in the word count.
• All tables, figures, and reference citations must be referred to in the text of the abstract.
• The abstract should be structured into the following sections:
  • Introduction/Objectives
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusions
• Name, surname, institution and e-mail should be written under the title.
• There should be 2 learning objectives under abstracts.
• The Congress Committee has rights to publish the accepted abstract in proceeding book.

Submission and Review procedure:

• Submitted abstracts can be saved as drafts and edited up to the submission deadline.
• Abstracts that are still in draft status after the deadline will not be evaluated and will not be included in the congress program.
• After submission, it is not possible to make any changes to the abstract.
• The Scientific Committee will review and evaluate all submitted abstracts according to the purpose and rationale of the study, appropriateness of the method, discussion of the results and the significance of contribution of the study.
• The Scientific Committee may accept submitted abstracts in an alternative format for presentation type.

Dear Friends, and Colleagues:

The Story goes back to April 16, 1998, when 25 physician representatives from 11 countries, from North and South America, Europe, and Asia, met in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA to develop an international collaboration to promote the role of addiction medicine in addressing the problems of alcohol and drug abuse. At that meeting, they discussed their respective and common needs about this joint effort and considered options for an organizational structure that would allow them to address those needs. 

They created the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM) as a global organization committed to the advancement of knowledge about addiction medicine. Now with an aggregate membership of around 15,000 practitioners globally working in the field of addiction medicine, ISAM spreads knowledge and practice all over the globe. ISAM is affiliated with more than 35 Affiliated Societies and Organizations all over the world. Since its establishment, ISAM has offered its Congress annually in different parts of the world to better reach people and communities. 

ISAM’s vision is to support and empower a competent and qualified workforce, through evidence-based educational and other training opportunities, to be able to contribute to providing quality service to individuals with complex needs. ISAM puts social responsibility at the heart of its strategic agenda with innovation, respect, excellence, equity, professionalism, and diversity as its core values. 

Addiction medicine is conceptualized as an encompassing terminology that captures all psychological and physical related conditions and consequences that are attributed to all types  of pharmacological and non-pharmacological addictions. 

ISAM’s ethos is firmly focused on the need to work in multidisciplinary and multi-professional systems of care that are required to support and sustain effective clinical pathways to serve our vulnerable patients. 

This year, ISAM 2024 Istanbul, as ISAM 26th World Congress, will convene in the beautiful city of Istanbul, Turkey under the theme: Building Bridges: Addiction and Recovery. 

On behalf of my colleagues in the ISAM Family, Board of Directors, Committees, and Office, I would like to thank the Addiction Psychiatry Foundation of Türkiye led by Dr. Rabia Bilici and all the individuals who are working tirelessly to make such an event not just a reality but also a success.
