Poster Presentations
PDA 2024 will feature poster presentations for the very first time. Posters can be research-themed or a case report. Trainees (residents and medical students) and young physicians less than 5 years in practice are eligible to participate. Submissions are limited to 1 per presenting author. PDA's Executive Committee will select the best 20 abstracts for poster presentation. Formal presentation times will be provided Thursday, August 22 from 6:15 pm - 7:00 pm and Friday, August 23 from 10:00 am - 10:45 am. Posters will be judged and a $500 cash prize will be awarded to the top poster presented at PDA 2024.

Eligibility
The primary author and presenter of any Poster Presentation abstract must be a current PDA member AND a resident in an approved dermatology training program in the Western US or Western Canada, a medical student enrolled in an accredited medical school in the Western US or Western Canada or a practicing physician less than 5 years post training. It is expected that chosen presenters will attend the PDA 2024 Annual Meeting in-person and adhere to the attendee guidelines. Complimentary conference registration will be provided to resident and medical student presenting authors while discounted registration will be provided to practicing physicians less than 5 years post training. Residents may submit the same case abstract for both the Resident Case Symposium and Poster Presentations, however, if selected, the abstract will only be presented during one of the sessions.

Presentation Schedule / Set Up & Tear Down
Accepted Posters may be set up starting on Thursday, August 22 at 12:00 noon. Set-up must be complete by Thursday, August 22 at 5:00 pm. Presenters may begin to tear down their posters on Saturday, August 24 at 10:30 am and complete by Saturday, August 24 at 12:00 noon. The presenting author is responsible for the poster assembly, mounting, and presentation of their poster. Poster presenters will be provided with a poster number to identify where their poster will be set up in the exhibit hall. Pushpins will be provided.
Formal poster presentations will take case on the following two days and we ask you to be present at your posters:
- Thursday, August 22 | 6:15 pm - 7:00 pm (during Opening Reception with Exhibitors)
- Friday, August 23 | 10:00 am - 10:45 am (during mid-morning coffee break)
If you are unable to be present during these times, we encourage you to leave business cards to include your contact information on your poster so conference attendees may reach out to you regarding your poster.
Posters should be prepared in advance and should be brought in person by the presenter or medical colleague attending the meeting. If you are staying at the Hyatt Regency, you may send your poster to yourself; however, PDA staff will be unable to accept any posters on your behalf. All printing and shipping fees are the responsibility of the presenter. Posters cannot contain any industry logos, content, advertising messages, literature, contact information, etc. Industry representatives may not be involved in or related to the hanging/placement of the poster.
It is the responsibility of the poster presenter to tear down and pack their poster. PDA will not be responsible for any posters left in the exhibit hall after the closing of the exhibit hall on Saturday, August 24 at 12:00 noon. Any posters left in the exhibit hall at that time will be discarded.
Abstract Submission Guidelines
Abstracts should be no longer than 350 words. This word count only includes the body of the abstract. It does not include author information or references. Abstracts should reflect the content of the presentation, including the title.
- Abstracts will be accepted as text only. Images and visual aides are not permitted; however, if selected, it's expected that you include such materials in your poster.
- All abstracts must be submitted electronically using the online form.
- Submissions focusing on Skin of Color topics are welcome.
- All correspondence related to the submission (including acceptance notifications) will be addressed to the Presenting Author.
- The Presenting Author may submit a maximum of 1 abstract, so give us your best work.
- If you are a resident submitting a Case Report that you wish to be considered for both a poster presentation and case submission, please submit your abstract twice - once selecting "Resident Cases - Annual Meeting" from the dropdown menu under Submission Type and then second selecting "Poster Presentations - Annual Meeting".
- Due to the quick turnaround between the submission deadline and selection, no changes may be made to a submitted abstract after the submission deadline.
- Incomplete abstracts will not be considered.
- Only up to (5) five references may be included.
- Commercial involvement in the production or placement of accepted poster abstracts is prohibited.
- Industry, trade, or product names in the abstract title or content is prohibited. Generic terms should be used instead of trade names. Any trade names will be changed to their generic or component name.
- The use of company or product names as a means for promotion/advertising is strictly prohibited.
- Only abstracts on completed research or case studies will be considered.

Poster Presentation Guidelines
Each poster display will be 4 feet high x 8 feet wide mounted horizontally. Please note that all poster boards will be double-sided and will be in close proximity - please respect area around your poster.
- Each poster should include the poster title and author(s) name(s). Industry logos, content, advertising messages, literature, contact information, etc., may not be included.
- The lettering of the title strip should be at least 1" high.
- All poster material should be confined to the space provided (see dimensions above).
- Text and illustrations must be readable from a distance of at least 5 feet.
- All lines should be heavily drawn.
- Typed materials should be in the largest typeface available.
- The poster should be understandable without oral explanation in case you are unable to be at your poster when attendees view it.
- When planning your poster presentation, aim for clarity and simplicity. In order to maintain a good visual balance, poster content should occupy approximately 50% of the total 4' x 8' poster board area. Remember that:
- The objective of the work should be stated.
- Experimental details should be concise.
- Tables and conclusions should be clearly stated.
- Do not overload the poster with excessive text and data.
- Where possible, organize tables and figures chronologically in vertical progression.
Resident Case Submission
The submission deadline for the Resident Case Symposium is June 1, 2024.
- $750 in travel expenses will be provided for the 15 residents selected to present
- Resident presenters will receive complimentary meeting registration
- The top case will be selected as the Anita Gilliam Best Resident Case and receive $500 cash
- The best resident presenter will receive a "traveling" award engraved with their name and past winners that can be displayed prominently at their institution
